Hello, I am writing to you as a supporter of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity and a constituent of your district. I believe everyone deserves a safe, stable, and affordable home. Homeownership plays a transformative and foundational role for individuals and families, with impacts that span across education, health, and wellbeing. Moreover, it is transformational for communities, and investing in housing is necessary to address our state's racial homeownership gap. For these reasons, I am asking you to prioritize affordable homeownership for our state during this year's legislative session. To make this a reality, I ask that you support the following goals and policies. 1. Increase the supply of affordable homes by investing in critical programs and funding sources: - Challenge Fund (HF2865) - Greater Minnesota Housing Infrastructure Program (HF1143) - Housing Infrastructure Bonds (HF1141) - Workforce & Affordable Housing Program (HF2914) 2. Ensure equitable access to homeownership: - Replenish the First Generation Down Payment Assistance program (HF999) 3. Improve long-term security for homeowners: - Fund the HECAT program (HF 1879) - Support HOA reforms (HF1268) - Support the creation of a task force to stabilize Minnesota's insurance market (HF2228) Our state needs to invest in homeownership to meet the affordable housing needs of our communities. Together, we can ensure every Minnesotan has a chance to achieve homeownership. These programs are effective tools to do this, and I appreciate your efforts to meet this goal together.
