This bill is currently being considered by state lawmakers, so now is the time to voice your support to your representatives. In addition to sharing your support of this bill, lawmakers should hear why there is a need for reform. Installing strong conflict of interest standards for HOA boards and the management companies they hire, including outlawing kickbacks and requiring competitive bidding for large contracts.
Stopping unnecessary foreclosure.
Improving communication and transparency between residents and HOA boards.

I am writing to you as a constituent in support of the proposed reforms in SF1750 to improve the governance of homeowners' associations (HOAs). I believe everyone deserves a safe, stable, and affordable home as the foundation for healthy families and strong communities.  <br><br>HOAs provide profound benefits and community to the neighborhoods in which they operate, however current state statute does not provide the guardrails needed to protect homeowners. Homeowners frequently navigate a range of issues surrounding their HOAs, including lack of transparent disclosure of fines and rules, escalating attorney fees to respond to basic operational questions, and property management companies that hire their preferred vendors with no bidding process for large contracts. Establishing a CIC/HOA Ombudsperson Office was an important first step, and now we need to improve operational standards transparently so that HOA residents, boards, and property management companies have a common understanding of roles and responsibilities. This bill modernizes Minnesota’s statute with better consumer protections in line with many other states. <br><br>With your help, we can improve the relationship between HOAs and residents and ensure the ability of homeowners to stay in their homes isn't jeopardized.
