Subject: Support Investments into Affordable Homeownership

Message:

Hello, I am writing as your constituent and as a supporter of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. I believe everyone deserves access to a safe, affordable home, and that homeownership is foundational for families to succeed and communities to thrive. Federal investments are crucial to help us achieve this, and as such, I urge you to support the following priorities in FY26: - Continue to preserve and increase funding for the HOME program at no less than $1.5B, the CDBG program at no less than $3.3B, and the AmeriCorps program at no less than $1.26B. - Support the Homeownership Supply Accelerator, which would establish a new source of flexible financial assistance to regrow the nation’s stock of starter homes. - Help pass a tax package that advances homeownership through a permanent extension of the New Markets Tax Credit Program, protecting the tax-exempt status of charitable nonprofit housing providers, and supporting the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act (NHIA). We were relieved to see the executive order freezing federal funding was rescinded, but remain concerned over the impacts that similar actions could have on our work in the future, especially in the face of an affordable housing shortage that is affecting families across our state and our nation. I am appreciative for your leadership in ensuring these vital funds remain intact, and look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together in the future to advance affordable homeownership in our communities.
