Subject: Support Investments into Affordable Homeownership

Message:

Hello, I am writing as your constituent, a supporter of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, and with the belief that homeownership is transformative and foundational for individuals, families, and communities. Everyone deserves access to a safe, affordable home, and I know together we can make that a reality for Minnesotans. Federal investments are crucial to help us achieve this, and as such, I urge you to support the following appropriations and priorities in fiscal year 2026: - Within the Transportation, Housing & Urban Development bill: preserve and increase funding for the Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) program at no less than $1.25 billion, and Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) at no less than $3.3 billion. - Within the Labor, Health, Human Services, & Education bill: preserve and increase funding for the AmeriCorps program at no less than $1.26 billion. - Within the Financial Services and General Government bill: fund the CDFI Fund at no less than $324 million. - Support the creation of the Homeownership Supply Accelerator, which would establish a new source of flexible financial assistance to regrow the nation’s stock of starter homes. - Pass the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act to mobilize private investments in under-resources communities through federal tax credits. I am also grateful to see Congress considering bipartisan solutions to address our housing needs, including the ROAD to Housing Act that was recently passed by the Senate, and am hopeful that the House will prioritize similar solutions that can increase the supply of affordable homes. While the government shutdown has ended, it's widespread impacts are still being felt in communities across the country, and we are concerned over the potential of a future shutdown. At a time when so many families are struggling to afford safe and decent housing, it's crucial that Congress continues to fund the programs that help us produce and preserve affordable housing. I am appreciative for your leadership in ensuring these vital funds remain intact and look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together in the future. Thank you,
