Good evening, Friend,

One of our biggest priorities this year at the Minnesota state legislature is improving protections for homeowners who live in homeowners associations (HOAs). A bill (SF 1750) is currently being considered by state lawmakers, and we need your help to show there is strong support for these necessary changes.

Can you contact your lawmakers in support of SF 1750?

Click below to learn more about these reforms and send a quick, pre-drafted letter to your Minnesota legislators in just a few steps. If you have your own experience with an HOA, now is also a great time to share your story! Hearing directly from constituents is helpful for elected leaders and impactful to show there is support for this issue.

Why are these reforms needed?

HOAs create rules and regulations for the communities in which they operate, and have the power to fine - and even foreclose on - homeowners. But they lack any government oversight for how they function or how this power is used under current law. This has caused challenges for homeowners and even jeopardized their ability to stay in their home when HOAs pursue foreclosure for minor reasons. Our goal is to make this environment more functional for both homeowners and HOAs in line with the updates we've seen in other states, and we believe this bill will help achieve that.

You can check out our blog to learn more about HOA reform, and reach out with any questions at advocacy@tchabitat.org.

Thank you for your advocacy to preserve and advance affordable homeownership.
